Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine involves the use of several different natural modalities to manage health concerns, and achieve optimal health. Some modalities typically used by Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario include botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, nutraceuticals, homeopathy, bio-identical hormone replacement, lifestyle medicine and more. Naturopathic doctors are regulated, primary care physicians who are able to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions. Through careful, detailed interviewing, blood work and other diagnostic testing, your health concerns and lifestyle will be explored thoroughly and your naturopathic doctor will help you come up with a health plan to treat the root cause of your health issues and get you the results you desire.

Acupuncture & Cosmetic Acupuncture

Naturopathic doctors are trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which includes TCM herbal formulas and acupuncture. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin to stimulate the movement of Qi along various meridians. Acupuncture has demonstrated efficacy in a variety of health conditions, such as infertility, chronic pain, mental health disorders, insomnia and hormonal issues. To see if you'd be a good candidate for general acupuncture treatments, you'll need a full naturopathic visit initially so your naturopathic doctor can determine the best protocol for your needs.

Cosmetic acupuncture involves fundamentals of TCM as well as the use of intra-dermal needles inserted directly into wrinkles, fine lines, areas of hyperpigmentation and into the muscles of the face to rejuvenate the skin and improve the appearance of the face.

IV Therapy

Naturopathic intravenous (IV) therapy involves the infusion of a variety of vitamins, minerals and proteins directly into the blood stream. IV therapy can be extremely beneficial in cases where a patient suffers from conditions that cause malabsorption of nutrients from the diet (e.g. IBD, celiac disease etc.) or if a patient is unable to regularly take their supplements for any reason. Some conditions that significantly benefit from IV therapy include fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, acute or chronic infection, cancers and more. To begin your IV therapy experience, you'll need to complete an initial intravenous consultation, which will allow your naturopathic doctor to gather all of the necessary information and perform relevant physical exams to ensure IV therapy is going to be safe and effective for you.

Vitamin Injections

Vitamin injections are given as part of a comprehensive naturopathic health plan where indicated. Your naturopathic doctor will require recent lab work with evidence of deficiency to be able to administer vitamin D or B12 through intramuscular injection. These short visits are a quick and economical way to rapidly correct vitamin deficiencies, while ensuring you are absorbing the entirety of the dose as intramuscular injections bypass the digestive system.

Integrative Cancer Care

Integrative cancer care in naturopathic medicine is the use of naturopathic treatments to facilitate health and wellbeing in cancer patients.  We educate those living with cancer on the important aspects of nutrition, supplementation and lifestyle changes as they relate to their specific condition. By targeting the metabolic, immune and inflammatory pathways in which cancer can grow, we aim to create a less cancer-friendly environment in your body, and to help you and your immune system fight to the best of it’s ability. Our goal is to help you ensure you’re doing everything you can to improve your health.

We use wholistic, evidence-based practices and the fundamental modalities of naturopathic medicine to support the body’s natural defences against cancer cells.  The modalities we use include, but are not limited to, nutritional strategies, supplementation with herbs and nutraceuticals, intravenous vitamin C, subcutaneous mistletoe injections, acupuncture and various lifestyle changes.

We offer these therapies to help you at any stage of your journey with cancer. Whether you have just been diagnosed or have been living with cancer for a long time,  you want to reduce your risk of developing cancer or you need assistance with palliation or survivorship, we can provide insight to help you along the way. Our naturopathic treatment plans are highly individualized; so depending on your concerns, treatment goals could include the use of naturopathic modalities to provide guidance after diagnosis, compliment your conventional cancer treatment, help you manage the side effects of cancer therapies, improve your quality of life while living with cancer, or to allow you to feel in control of your health again.

The initial visit is 90 minutes long and includes a very thorough discussion about your cancer type, the history of your illness, past and present therapies and procedures, to be sure that our recommendations are compatible with your other therapies and lifestyle. Information you will want to have prepared before your appointment includes you cancer diagnosis including the grade and stage, history of medical treatments (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, immune therapy), past and current medication use, any medical imaging results, biopsy results, blood work results, and what your personal goals of therapy are. There will also be a detailed exploration of other aspects of your health, such as diet, sleep, exercise, stress and more. Please ensure the intake form is filled out at least 48 hours before your appointment to avoid your appointment being rescheduled. After the initial visit, you’ll be given several recommendations that are tailored to your specific condition, treatments you’re undergoing, and goals of therapy. If additional therapies such as mistletoe and vitamin C are deemed valuable in your case, the next steps will also be discussed.
